The famous Andalusian trail, the Caminito del Rey, located in El Chorro, is about to offer an even more thrilling experience to its visitors. A new extension is currently under construction: a 110-meter-long pedestrian suspension bridge, which will become the longest of its kind in Spain.

Construction officially began on Friday, March 28, 2025, marking the tenth anniversary of the Caminito del Rey’s reopening. This ambitious project, costing €1.25 million, is funded by the Diputación de Málaga. Its goal is to enhance the region's tourist appeal while improving access to the trail.
Bridge Features:
Length: 110 meters
Height: approximately 50 meters above the ground
Incline: 7% downward slope
Total weight: 17 tons
Structure: supported by two main steel cables, each weighing 4,500 kg
Location: near the El Chorro railway bridge and tunnel

Installing this spectacular structure requires the expertise of engineers, specialized climbers, and helicopters to transport materials into this rugged area.
Expected Opening
The bridge is scheduled to open to the public in November 2025, coinciding with the 120th anniversary of the original trail’s creation and the 10th anniversary of its modern restoration. This extension will shorten the current descent by one kilometer, making the route more accessible and appealing to visitors.
Economic and Tourist Impact
Since its reopening in 2015, the Caminito del Rey has welcomed nearly 3 million visitors, generating approximately €400 million in economic impact and creating more than 685 direct and indirect jobs. This new extension is expected to further boost the region's tourist appeal and contribute to its economic development.
The Caminito del Rey continues to reinvent itself, offering unforgettable experiences to hiking and nature enthusiasts. This new addition promises to bring an extra dose of adrenaline to an already iconic trail.
